Treatment Philosophy & Focus
It is my belief that seeking therapy is as vulnerable as it is courageous, and I have the utmost respect for my clients as they face life challenges, and are willing to work toward change. I have a client-centered approach, and prefer to meet individuals and couples where they are in the change process and within the realm of their own personal goals and beliefs. I believe clients are the experts in their own lives, and as therapists our job is to guide individuals on a path that meets their own needs for life satisfaction and happiness. I view therapy as collaborative and supportive.
I approach clients with a strong belief and framework that all emotions, behaviors, and responses have been adaptive in some way throughout their lifetime. I believe in the importance of taking into consideration one’s current life circumstances, upbringing, and relationship history in order to better understand them. I believe each individual is equipped with uniqueness and strengths, and that their own answers lie within. I believe self-awareness is an important part of self-growth.
Education & Experience
Erin graduated from Michigan State University with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communications, followed by a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. She completed clinical training in both inpatient and outpatient settings working with individuals of all ages, couples, and families. Erin completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Michigan Institute for Human Adjustment, and her postdoctoral training at the University of South Carolina Counseling and Human Development Center. Since that time, she has worked in an outpatient private practice setting. She is looking forward to meeting you where you are on your journey.
