Janet Richards , LMSW

Wellness matters. Wellness first.

Janet is an experienced Licensed Masters Social Worker and sees patients that are adolescents and adults. She treats individuals with general mental health concerns, as well as individuals, couples, and families.

Treatment Philosophy & Focus

Janet’s philosophy is that everyone will face struggles at some point in their life and believes in normalizing the process of reaching out to speak with a therapist. Her approach is warm, engaging and direct. She aims to develop a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, which is the building block for change to occur. During this process, Janet may use her experience with Cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, person centered therapy, or mindfulness to help you develop a plan to reach your goals. Change can be overwhelming, especially when it feels like there is too much to overcome. Janet believes in achieving small successes, building confidence, and empowering you to build the skills to meet your therapeutic goals.

Education & Experience

Janet earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University, with an emphasis on developmental psychology. She also completed her Master of Social Work degree at Michigan State University.  Prior to working at the Wellness Institute, Janet worked as a therapist in mental health practices in the greater Lansing area.
